Each summer the Leader’s Training Course Public Affairs Office offers competitive internship opportunities for journalism or related majors.
All internships are paid. Housing in a local hotel is provided and transportation for on-the-job travel is also provided.
This year our internships run June 4 to Aug. 6, 2012. Deadline to apply is April 1. Positions available include:
- reporter
- photographer
- videographer
- public relations
- social media
Interns write and produce for a variety of media including a daily website, multimedia productions and a yearbook.
Unlike many internships where students are used as gofers or supplemental writers, our interns are a vital part of our summer operation. They are treated as professional journalists who are are responsible for producing nearly all of our material. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in the journalism field to gain valuable experience working under the same conditions as a professional journalist.
To apply, applicants should e-mail a cover letter, resume and clip file or portfolio to: steve.arel@usacc.army.mil.
Application details:- Clip files for writers should contain six to eight published news or feature articles. Writing assignments for class can be substituted for published work, but is not recommended.
- Portfolios for photographers should contain around 12 still images demonstrating an array of work and subjects in different shooting conditions. A photo essay, separate from the individual stills, is suggested although not required, and a multimedia project is also suggested though not required
- Portfolios for videographers should include at least two clips, clearly marked defining what the role of the applicant was in the project. For this internship, videographers will shoot and edit, so clips demonstrating both skills will be given higher priority. NOTE: There is no need nor desire for on-camera talent. Anyone looking for such an internship need not apply.
- Public/media relations and social media applicants should include any relevant work or descriptions of past work not fully included on their resume.
